Privacy Policy

Your privacy and security are our top priorities

Effective Date: December 4, 2024

Last Updated: December 4, 2024

1. Introduction

Welcome to MetaC ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our browser extension wallet (the "Extension"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your digital assets.

By installing and using MetaC, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use the Extension.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

When you use MetaC, we may collect the following information that you voluntarily provide:

  • Wallet Data: Encrypted wallet addresses, public keys, and extended public keys generated locally on your device
  • User Preferences: Network settings (mainnet/testnet), language preferences, and display options
  • Transaction History: Records of your blockchain transactions (stored locally)
  • Connected DApps: List of decentralized applications you've authorized to interact with your wallet

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

We do NOT automatically collect:

  • Your browsing history
  • Personal identification information
  • Device information beyond what's necessary for extension functionality
  • Location data
  • Analytics or tracking data

2.3 Sensitive Information

We NEVER collect, transmit, or store:

  • Your private keys or seed phrases (mnemonics)
  • Your wallet passwords
  • Unencrypted wallet data

All sensitive cryptographic material is encrypted using industry-standard encryption algorithms and stored exclusively on your local device. We have no access to your private keys or passwords.

3. How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used solely for the following purposes:

  • Wallet Functionality: To provide core wallet features including balance queries, transaction signing, and asset management
  • User Experience: To remember your preferences and settings across sessions
  • DApp Integration: To facilitate secure communication between your wallet and authorized decentralized applications
  • Network Communication: To query blockchain networks for balance information and broadcast signed transactions
  • Security: To protect your wallet from unauthorized access through encryption and secure storage

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage

All wallet data, including encrypted private keys, is stored locally on your device using the browser's secure storage APIs (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device except when you explicitly initiate a blockchain transaction.

4.2 Encryption

Your private keys and seed phrases are encrypted using AES-256 encryption with your password as the key derivation input. We employ industry-standard cryptographic practices to ensure the security of your sensitive data.

4.3 Network Communication

When querying balances or broadcasting transactions, MetaC communicates with:

  • Blockchain nodes and RPC endpoints
  • Block explorer APIs for transaction history
  • Token registry services for asset metadata

All network communications are transmitted over HTTPS to prevent interception. We only send the minimum necessary information (public addresses, signed transactions) and never transmit private keys or passwords.

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

5.1 We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information or wallet data to third parties under any circumstances.

5.2 Third-Party Services

MetaC may interact with the following third-party services to provide functionality:

  • Blockchain Networks: Public blockchain nodes to query balances and broadcast transactions
  • Block Explorers: Services like blockchain.info or similar to retrieve transaction history
  • Token Registries: Decentralized or centralized registries for token metadata (names, symbols, icons)

These services may collect public blockchain data (addresses, transaction IDs) but do not receive any private information from MetaC.

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency). However, since we do not collect or store private keys or personal identification information, there is minimal data available for disclosure.

6. Your Privacy Rights

6.1 Data Control

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: You can view all stored wallet data through the Extension interface
  • Modification: You can change your settings and preferences at any time
  • Deletion: You can delete your wallet data by uninstalling the Extension or using the "Reset Wallet" feature
  • Export: You can export your seed phrase to back up your wallet (store it securely!)

6.2 Data Portability

Your wallet is based on standard BIP32/BIP39/BIP44 derivation paths, making it compatible with other wallet software. You can import your seed phrase into other wallets at any time.

7. Cookies and Tracking

MetaC does not use cookies, web beacons, or any tracking technologies. We do not track your browsing activity or collect analytics data about your Extension usage.

8. Children's Privacy

MetaC is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will take steps to remove such information.

9. International Data Transfers

Since all data is stored locally on your device, there are no international data transfers. When you interact with blockchain networks, you are directly communicating with decentralized nodes that may be located anywhere in the world.

10. Data Retention

Your wallet data is retained on your device until you explicitly delete it by:

  • Uninstalling the Extension
  • Using the "Reset Wallet" or "Delete Wallet" feature
  • Clearing your browser's extension data

Blockchain transactions are permanently recorded on public blockchains and cannot be deleted.

11. Security Measures

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your wallet:

  • AES-256 encryption for private keys and seed phrases
  • Secure password hashing using PBKDF2 or similar algorithms
  • Content Security Policy (CSP) to prevent code injection attacks
  • Isolated execution environment for content scripts
  • Regular security audits and updates

However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for:

  • Choosing a strong, unique password
  • Keeping your seed phrase secure and private
  • Not sharing your password or seed phrase with anyone
  • Keeping your device and browser up to date

12. Third-Party Websites and DApps

MetaC may be used to interact with third-party websites and decentralized applications (DApps). This Privacy Policy does not apply to these third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external sites or DApps. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by:

  • Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
  • Displaying a notification in the Extension (for significant changes)

Your continued use of MetaC after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

14. Contact Us

MetaC is committed to complying with applicable privacy laws and regulations, including:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Union
  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) for users in California
  • Other applicable data protection laws
